Trio of SEC Teams in Race for Commitment From Nation’s Top Quarterback

One of the most highly regarded high-school quarterbacks in the nation is emerging as a focal point of recruiting among several SEC programs.

Elijah Haven, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound quarterback from The Dunham School in Baton Rouge and the No. 1 ranked signal-caller in the Class of 2027, has consolidated his list of finalists around multiple power programs in the SEC, according to recruiting analysts.

Haven has put Alabama, Florida, Auburn and Georgia among his top suitors, a group that represents a mix of historic success and developing roster needs at the quarterback position.

Decision Coming Soon?

Recruiting insiders report that Haven has visited several campuses and plans to return for additional official visits as the process continues. Alabama has been active in its pursuit, hosting Haven multiple times and scheduled another visit this weekend.

Haven’s visit schedule and interactions with coaching staffs have generated national recruiting buzz. Rivals’ prediction models show Alabama with a strong likelihood of ultimately signing the quarterback, and recruiting analysts have noted the Crimson Tide’s consistency in building relationships.

On-Field Production, National Standing

Statistically, Haven’s high school resume has been prolific. In his most recent season, he passed for over 4,700 yards and accounted for more than 70 total touchdowns, a figure that set a state record in Louisiana.

According to national scouting services, he not only stands atop the quarterback rankings, but also ranks among the top overall prospects in the class. On247Sports’ composite rankings list Haven as a five-star prospect, placing him among the highest-rated players nationwide.

Rivals reported Haven has thrown for 73 touchdowns with just seven interceptions in his recent campaign, completing more than 70 percent of his passes while also contributing nearly 800 rushing yards and double-digit touchdowns on the ground.

Haven is currently ranked as the No. 2 player in the country for 2027, No. 1 quarterback in his class, and No. 1 in Louisiana, according to 247Sports.

Program Fits and Coaching Impacts

From a program perspective, each school recruiting Haven offers a different context and potential pathway.

At Alabama, new staff configurations and quarterback depth chart questions have opened opportunities for a high-profile recruit to compete early. The Tide has secured another 2027 quarterback commit, 4-star Trent Seaborn, but Haven’s elite skill set is too much to pass up.

Of course, Kalen DeBoer’s staff have the upper hand early since they hosted Haven for a visit during the program’s Junior Day event over the weekend which leaves everyone else playing catch up.

Florida, a program under new leadership with Jon Sumrall continuing momentum from previous staff, has remained in the mix. Observers point to Florida’s offensive scheme and recent visits as factors keeping the Gators competitive among Haven’s finalists.

Auburn is also in the conversation, with head coach Alex Golesh seeking impactful additions in his early tenure. The Tigers have been active in hosting visits from high profile recruits over the weekend and have built a solid rapport with Haven early on.

Meanwhile, Georgia retains interest and has made official overtures; the Bulldogs’ tradition of quarterback development remains part of Haven’s evaluation.

National Recruitment

Beyond the SEC, Haven has drawn interest from programs across the country throughout his recruitment, including visits to schools outside the conference and that comes as no surprise.

While Haven has not committed, recruiting analysts emphasize that his process will likely extend into the spring and early summer before a final decision. National recruiting models currently project varying probabilities for his eventual destination, with Alabama frequently listed as a frontrunner.

In the meantime, college football programs continue to engage with Haven on and off campus, underscoring his status as one of the most consequential recruits in the Class of 2027.
