Texas Longhorns reportedly hire former Big 12 head coach to staff ahead of spring practice

AUSTIN — Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian is reportedly targeting former West Virginia Mountaineers coach Neal Brown to join his coaching staff ahead of spring practice, according to multiple reports.

Brown was fired following the 2024 season after his team finished with a 6-7 record, 5-4 in Big 12 play. He was hired away after s stint at Troy and completed his tenure of six seasons in Morgantown with a 37-35 overall record.
It is unclear what his role on Texas’ staff will be next season although his offensive background which includes multiple stps as offensvie coordinator and quarterback coach roles at with Texas Tech, Kentucky and Troy before taking over at West Virginia.
Brown has an offensive background and was an OC/QB coach at Troy, Texas Tech, and Kentucky before landing his first head coaching job at Troy in 2015. He employed the No. 5 rushing attack in the Big 12 at 194 yards per game in 2024 but were middle of the pack in total offense ranking No. 10 in the league at 404 yards per game, respectively.
