TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — One of the biggest SEC football games of the season will take place this weekend with Alabama hosting Georgia.

The winner of this game likely claims a spot in the College Football Playoff and predicted as front runners for the national championship. Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer is out to prove that even though a change in command has taken place that the Alabama brand remains strong.

For Kirby Smart and Georgia, it’s an opportunity for the Bulldogs program to prove its staying power at the top of the sport. This is the second consecutive road conference game for Smart’s team after it snuck out of Lexington with a victory two weeks ago against Kentucky.

“If Kalen (DeBoer) loses, I think now you go, okay, how does this reflect recruiting in the South?” Pollack offered. “If I’m Kirby… it’s like, ‘Look, look, you see what I’m saying? They’re not ready for this. This is a new reign.'”

Alabama is currently struggling to recruit its own state despite holding the No. 2 class, according to 247sports 2025 team recruiting rankings. In comparison, Georgia has done a fine job recruiting to maintain its place at the top of the sport with two titles in the past three seasons. The Bulldogs have a total of 21 commitments with three 5-star’s pledged.

However, Georgia remains No. 5 in the rankings behind Alabama, LSU at No. 3 and Auburn at No. 4. Of course, a loss by Alabama doesn’t mean its program which has been the standard in the sport since 2008 will simply go away. With NIL, transfer portal and so many factors changing the sport this could be the chance Smart needs to solidify himself and the Bulldogs with staying power for years to come.
