Josh Pate’s way-too-early Top 25 rankings likes SEC teams

It’s not exactly a secret that “Josh Pate’s College Football Show” YouTube on college football is one of the top brands, especially when it comes to SEC teams.

His “Way-Too-Early” posting early Monday morning means, quite simply, it’s going to be a battle every week in the league. That’s assuming things play out like normal.

About the only thing really surprising from this corner was Pate putting the Texas Longhorns at No. 2 on the list. That’s draw some talk.

Let’s face it, among some other teams in the SEC, a lot of people love the Longhorns. Just as many (maybe more) absolutely had the team down in Austin.

“I’m high on Texas,” Pate said on the YouTube. “I’ll put Texas at number two. I saw how Arch Manning finished the year.”

Manning, who had a rough start last year, came on really strong towards the end of the season and the Longhorns may have been a tough out in the College Football Playoff, but they didn’t get there (and we’re not going into the reasons for that).

Here’s a complete listing of where he had SEC teams in the broadcast:

2. Texas Longhorns
7. Georgia Bulldogs
8. Texas A&M Aggies
9. Oklahoma Sooners
10. LSU Tigers
13. Alabama Crimson Tide
16. Ole Miss Rebels
21. Missouri Tigers
23. Vanderbilt Commodores

I’ll save you doing some math and counting because there are nine SEC teams in the Top 25 and half of the Top 10 is from the league.

Granted, they pretty much dominated the back half of that last ranking but that’s because playing each other is likely to knock some of them out of how things stack up at the end.

Take a look at the complete overall rankings. The team at the top will fire up some of the SEC folks and, if nothing else, everybody knows who the other big dog conference is these days and that’s reflected in the rankings, too.

Just don’t expect any teams that probably couldn’t compete well in the CFP. That’s only for the folks that somehow think that know to fairness will actually matter at the end of the year.
