Gators will be cautious getting Lagway ready this spring
Napier shares star quarterback’s availability for spring practice

GAINESVILLE — Florida Gators coach Billy Napier gave an update on injured star quarterback DJ Lagway ahead of spring practice.
He expects to allow Lagway to rehab slowly with the intention of not forcing him to do much.
“Our intentions here are to be very smart,” Napier said Thursday. “I do think he’ll be limited in throwing activities, but he’ll participate in all practices otherwise.”
Lagway led Florida to a 6-1 mark down the stretch of the 2024 regular season completing 60% of his passes for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The Gators won four straight victories with two signature wins coming against rival LSU and playoff hopeful Ole Miss.
“We’ve done a lot of homework with the things he went through as a player, but he was an absolute warrior and a great competitor that showed toughness.”
Playing it safe this early in the offseason is a good plan and should result in Lagway keeping his confidence despite being limited.
“In general, he will be able to do quite a bit, but there’ll be some limitations.”
Florida opens the regular season at home against Long Island in week one and USF in week two. Then, Napier’s team will face four consecutive games against ranked opponents (three on road) at LSU, at Miami, home against No. 2 Texas and at Texas A&M.
