Former Alabama QB Gives Prediction for 12-Team Playoff

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — It’s prediction season around the world of College Football as the season is only three days away from kickoff. Hot takes, coaching hot seats and other topics populate the airwaves of sports radio and podcasts.

SEC Network analyst and former Alabama starting quarterback Greg McElroy sounded off about his College Football Playoffs and SEC predictions for the season. Georgia is among one of the best teams in the country and McElroy seems to agree.

The Bulldogs return its starting quarterback in Carson Beck along with a never ending supply of talent up and down the roster. McElroy believes Georgia will defeat Texas to be named the one-seed for the College Football Playoff

“They still have the best personnel,” McElroy said about Georgia. “They still have the deepest roster and they still might have the best quarterback in Carson Beck. I think Georgia is gonna be in the mix all season as the No. 1 or No. 2 at the very worst but will they get to the SEC Championship and will be measured against the Texas Longhorns.”

Others are siding with Big Ten juggernaut Ohio State following a massive portal haul and exemplary recruiting model. However, the Oregon Ducks can’t be counted out of Big Ten championship contention in its first season in the league.

Oregon should be considered playoff contenders based off recent production and trajectory under Dan Lanning. If any school is ready to make a huge jump in a new conference it would be the Ducks given the athletic department’s relationship with Nike owner Phil Knight.

MCELROY’S PLAYOFF PICKS

  1. Georgia

  5. Oregon
  6. Texas

NATIONAL TITLE PICK

“I’m taking the Ohio State Buckeyes to win the national championship in 2024,” McElroy said. “They have, I think a super dynamic run game, the defense has a chance to be elite.

“I still believe that the offensive line, even though there are question marks, I still think the offensive line is gonna be plenty good enough with Chip Kelly calling the plays. The run game will be able to complement what they want to be on the perimeter with super talented weapons that they have at wide receiver. The Ohio State Buckeyes over the Georgia Bulldogs for the national title.”
