LSU Tigers will have to search for new defensive line coach for fourth straight offseason

BATON ROUGE — LSU Tigers coach Brian Kelly received tough news Thursday when his defensive line coach Bo Davis left the program to pursue an opportunity with the New Orleans Saints, according to a report.
The #Saints are expected to hire Bo Davis to be their defensive line coach, according to a league source, adding another coach from the college ranks.
Davis most recently worked as the DL coach at LSU and is considered one of the NCAA’s better DL coaches.

Davis leaves his alma mater after spending just year as one of college football’s highest paid assistant coaches at $1.25 million. He made other stops around the country at Alabama and Texas where he groomed numerous All-Americans and NFL first round draft picks.
New Saints coach Kellen Moore’s move to hire Davis continues a revolving door in Kelly’s staff at LSU with this being making four different defensive line coach in four seasons. Over the past eight seasons, Tigers’ head coaches have struggled to keep thin staff position filled as they have hired eight different DL assistants over the previous nine seasons.
The 54-year-old has worked for three separate NFL organizations since his coaching career began in 1995. He spent one season under Nick Saban with the Dolphins (2006), Jacksonville Jaguars (2016) and Detroit Lions (2018-2020).
He also brings an elite football pedigree to the NFL level with three national championships. The Saints hope to recover from four straight seasons without a playoff appearance after reaching the postseason nine times from 2009-2020.
