Auburn Lands Another Highly Recruited Defensive Commitment

AUBURN, Ala. — Coach Hugh Freeze continues to coach at an extremely high level as the Tigers land 4-star star defensive end Nate Marshall.

The 6-foot-4, 265 pound edge rusher flipped his commitment from Michigan to Auburn Friday morning. An Illinois native, Marshall had been committed to the Wolverines since April.

After taking multiple official visits to Illinois, Alabama, Miami and Auburn it was apparent that the Tigers had ramped up its recruitment of Marshall. Four reporters from 247sports logged commitment flip predictions for the heavily recruited defensive end Friday.

As a two-way star for Fenwick High School, he recorded 38 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, six sacks, four forced fumbles and four blocked kicks. Marshall proved to be a versatile offensive weapon scoring four touchdowns.

Marshall is a consensus top-120 prospect in the country and rated a 4-star across the board by all four major recruiting publications. On3’s Industry Ranking ranks him as the No. 58 overall prospect in the country for 2025, No. 5 among defensive linemen and the No. 3 player in Illinois. His commitment pushes Auburn to No. 5 in the 247sports national recruiting rankings.

His father, Ken Norman, played 10 seasons in the NBA with the Clippers, Bucks and Hawks. Norman spent three seasons at Illinois playing for the Fighting Illini basketball team. He was twice named a Big Ten all-conference selection before being selected with the No. 19 pick of the 1987 NBA Draft by the Clippers.

This is Michigan’s second recruiting defection in over a week after losing 3-star receiver Phillip Wright III to LSU.
