LSU, Two Other SEC Programs in Hunt for Talented Defensive Back

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — 2025 3-star cornerback Aidan Anding is down to three schools ahead of his scheduled commitment day of Aug. 24. The 6-0, 170 pound defender will make his college choice between three SEC schools: Arkansas, LSU and Texas after making several visits to the respective programs.

A Ruston, Louisiana native, Anding is a 3-star prospect but is just outside 4-status with multiple recruiting services. The expectation was for him to commit earlier this summer but an offer from LSU made him reevaluate his recruitment and reschedule an announcement.

Anding ranks as the nation’s No. 401 overall prospect for the 2025 class, No. 37 among cornerback and No. 13 player in Louisiana, according to On3’s Industry Rankings.

The Tigers’ currently have the nation’s top recruiting class following the flip of 4-star cornerback Kade Phillips from Texas. LSU’s class includes a commitment from the top overall prospect in quarterback Bryce Underwood of Belleville, Michigan.

Kelly’s staff has commitments from three 5-star prospects, six ranked in the top-100 and pledges from 15 4-star players across the country. By far the deepest recruiting class since 2022 which also saw three 5-stars sign with the Tigers.

RECRUITING PERSPECTIVE

Historically, there has been a fence around Louisiana to keep its best prospects home dating back to when Nick Saban roamed the sidelines of Tiger Stadium. A shift towards more of a national recruiting approach has emerged since Brian Kelly took over in 2022.

LSU’s brand is very strong, especially considering its three national championships in the past 20 years. Kelly and his staff have connections across the country with elite prospects readymade to help the Tigers compete for playoff berths.

With six of the state’s top-10 prospects currently pledged, an addition of Anding would add to what is already a deeply talented class. LSU has 22 prospects with a rating of 88 and all sit in the top 750 of On3’s player rankings.

There are 10 states represented in this class compared to six in the 2024 cycle and five in 2023. Much of that can be contributed to a lack of top prospects from Louisiana in 2025.

That is set to change with 2026’s crop of prospects. There are currently 10 players from the Bayou State who have earned a 4-star ranking and sit among the top-250 nationally. A slight down year recruiting in-state may not be much of a bad thing after all.
