“Alabama Stole Our Kicker”, Miami (Ohio) Coach Blasts Crimson Tide Over Tampering

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Miami (Ohio) coach Chuck Martin shared his anger towards the current state of college football, especially Alabama, for ‘stealing’ his kicker.

The RedHawks former place kicker, Graham Nicholson, transferred to Alabama following last season after being tampered with to transfer to one of the SEC’s most storied programs. Nicholson knocked down  27-of-28 field goals and 35-of-37 extra points attempts in 2023. He was the MAC’s first kicker to win college football’s Lou Groza Award given to the best kicker in the sport each fall.

“We didn’t lose him –He’s at Alabama,” Martin said during the interview. “We know, I understand exactly where he’s at. Again, you media people, it’s all pretend like no Alabama stole our kicker. They our kicker, and stole them from us and that’s a fact but we act like it’s not. We live in this La La world, like, hey, let’s not talk we I don’t know why. Everybody knows what’s going on. So, yeah, Alabama stole our kicker.”

After the video was released on YouTube and began making its rounds, new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer was asked about the tampering claims.

“I don’t know anything about [Martin’s claim],” DeBoer said. “He entered the portal and we reached out to him, that’s how it goes right? So we did everything the way we were supposed to.”

Alabama signed Nicholson in its 2024 transfer portal class which ranked No. 3 in the nation.
